MTC AIBELL
20th May 2027

Thursday 20th May 2027 | Day 14 of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ®
And suddenly, after all those miles, all those challenges and all those moments of courage and determination, the final day has arrived.
Welcome to MTC Aibell, the fourteenth and final stage of the incredible Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® 2027!
Today, our competitors leave Buncrana behind and head north towards one of the most iconic destinations in Ireland.
MALIN HEAD!
The northernmost point of mainland Ireland.
The ultimate finish line.
The destination that has been waiting for our MizMalĀ® warriors ever since they set off from Mizen Head thirteen days ago.
Our final ultramarathon takes its name from Aibell, a captivating figure from Irish mythology, associated with the Otherworld and often described as a queen of the fairies.
Aibell is linked to the legendary magical harp whose music could captivate those who heard it.
And what better mythical character to accompany our competitors on the final miles of their extraordinary journey?
After thirteen days of battling fatigue, weather, hills and their own physical limits, perhaps Aibell’s enchanting music will be just what they need to carry them towards Malin Head!
But make no mistake.
THE FINAL MILES STILL HAVE TO BE EARNED!
The MTC Aibell is advertised as a 27-mile ultramarathon, taking competitors from Buncrana to Malin Head through the spectacular landscape of County Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula.
For those joining us for this final standalone race, it’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the excitement and atmosphere of the MizMalĀ® grand finale.
But for those who started at Mizen Head on 7th May, this day means something almost impossible to put into words.
Fourteen consecutive days of running.
Fourteen individual races.
Fourteen legendary characters.
And one continuous journey across Ireland.
The finish line at Malin Head will represent far more than the completion of another race.
It will represent the culmination of months of preparation, fourteen days of extraordinary endurance and an unwavering refusal to give up.
Every successful MTC Aibell finisher will receive a bespoke medal commemorating their achievement.
But for competitors completing the entire fourteen-day Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® challenge, there’s an additional reward waiting.
Alongside their fourteen individual daily medals, successful full-distance finishers will earn the prestigious MizMalĀ® finisher’s medal.
FOURTEEN DAILY MEDALS + ONE OVERALL MIZMALĀ® MEDAL = FIFTEEN MEDALS!
Fifteen reminders of an extraordinary adventure.
Fifteen symbols of determination.
And one unforgettable journey from the southern tip of Ireland to the northernmost point of its mainland.
Think back to that first morning at Mizen Head.
The anticipation.
The excitement.
Perhaps a few nerves.
And the knowledge that hundreds of miles lay ahead.
Since then, our competitors have travelled through some of Ireland’s most spectacular landscapes, tackled fourteen uniquely named challenges and experienced the emotional rollercoaster that only a multi-day ultramarathon can provide.
There will have been difficult mornings.
Tired legs.
Blisters.
Moments of doubt.
And hopefully plenty of laughter, friendships and memories along the way.
Now, finally, the end is in sight.
Not just the end of another day’s running.
THE END OF THE ENTIRE MIZMALĀ® JOURNEY!
Malin Head is more than a geographical destination.
For our full MizMalĀ® competitors, it represents the realisation of an extraordinary ambition.
A place where fourteen days of determination become a lifetime of memories.
Where tired legs can finally rest.
Where emotions may well take over.
And where every finisher can look back across Ireland and say:
“I RAN FROM MIZEN HEAD TO MALIN HEAD!”
The fairy queen may possess the power of enchantment, but our competitors possess something even more remarkable.
ENDURANCE. COURAGE. RESILIENCE. DETERMINATION.
And after fourteen days, one final opportunity to demonstrate what they’re truly capable of.
Whether you’re joining us for the MTC Aibell alone or completing the full Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® adventure, this promises to be a very special day.
27 MILES. BUNCRANA TO MALIN HEAD.
THURSDAY 20TH MAY 2027.

Thursday 20th May 2027 | Day 14 of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ®
Deep within the rich tapestry of Irish mythology lies the story of Aibell, also known as Aoibheall, a mysterious and powerful figure associated with the supernatural world of the Aos SĆ ā the fairy folk of ancient Ireland.
Unlike the terrifying monsters and fearsome warriors encountered throughout our MizMalĀ® adventure, Aibell represents a different kind of mythical power.
Enchantment.
Beauty.
Prophecy.
And the mysterious influence of the Otherworld.
Traditionally associated with Craig Liath, near Killaloe in County Clare, Aibell appears in Irish folklore as a fairy queen whose presence could influence the lives and fortunes of mortals.
And she possessed something rather extraordinary.
A MAGICAL HARP!
According to Irish folklore, Aibell possessed an enchanted harp whose music held extraordinary power.
Some versions of the legend describe its melodies as so beautiful and overwhelming that those who heard them could be drawn into an otherworldly state.
But there was a darker side to its enchantment.
In certain tellings, the harp's music could foretell death or bring about a person's final moments.
Clearly, this was no ordinary musical instrument!
Fortunately, our MizMalĀ® competitors won't need to listen for a supernatural harp as they approach Malin Head.
Although, after thirteen consecutive ultramarathons, a little magical encouragement might be rather welcome!
Aibell also appears in traditions surrounding Brian Boru, the famous High King of Ireland.
In one well-known legend associated with the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, Aibell appears to Brian Boru and foretells his death.
Despite the warning, the king goes on to face his destiny.
It's a story that reflects Aibell's association with prophecy, fate and the mysteries of the supernatural world.
And while our competitors certainly aren't marching into battle, they will understand something about confronting a challenge that demands courage and determination.
After all, fourteen consecutive ultramarathons are hardly a gentle stroll through the Irish countryside!
Throughout Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® 2027, our competitors have encountered an extraordinary collection of characters drawn from Irish mythology and folklore.
From mischievous spirits and terrifying supernatural creatures to legendary warriors and mysterious beings, each day's challenge has carried its own mythical identity.
Now, on the fourteenth and final day, we meet Aibell.
A figure associated not simply with strength or fear, but with enchantment, destiny and the unknown.
And what could be more appropriate for the final chapter of such an extraordinary adventure?
For thirteen days, our competitors have been chasing a distant dream.
Now that dream is almost within reach.
Our MTC Aibell ultramarathon takes competitors from Buncrana to Malin Head, the northernmost point of mainland Ireland.
For standalone competitors, this is a memorable 27-mile challenge through the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula.
For those undertaking the complete fourteen-day MizMalĀ® adventure, however, these miles carry a very different significance.
They are the final miles of a journey that began at Mizen Head on 7th May.
The final miles after thirteen consecutive ultramarathons.
The final miles towards an achievement that very few people will ever attempt, let alone complete.
FOURTEEN DAYS. FOURTEEN CHALLENGES. ONE FINISH LINE!
Aibell may have possessed an enchanted harp, but there's something even more remarkable about the athletes who reach this final stage.
Their determination.
Their resilience.
Their ability to continue when their bodies are exhausted and their minds are begging them to stop.
No fairy magic can replace the months of preparation, the countless training miles and the courage required to take on an event of this magnitude.
And no mythical spell can carry a competitor across the finish line.
That achievement must be earned.
ONE STEP AT A TIME.
Imagine the moment.
After fourteen days of running, the finish line finally comes into view.
The northern tip of mainland Ireland.
The end of the road.
The culmination of an extraordinary journey.
There may be laughter.
There may be tears.
There will certainly be some very tired legs!
But above all, there will be the knowledge that something remarkable has been accomplished.
For successful full MizMalĀ® competitors, the final Aibell medal will be joined by the prestigious overall MizMalĀ® finisher's medal.
FOURTEEN DAILY MEDALS. ONE OVERALL MEDAL. FIFTEEN IN TOTAL!
And memories that will last a lifetime.
Perhaps the fairy queen will look kindly upon our competitors.
Perhaps her mythical harp will provide the inspiration needed for one final push.
Or perhaps, after thirteen days of extraordinary endurance, our runners will discover that the greatest magic of all has been within them from the very beginning.
THE POWER TO KEEP GOING!
The Pooka has been conquered.
The Leprechaun has been outwitted.
The Banshee has been silenced.
The Dullahan has been outrun.
The Bodach has been defeated.
Now just one mythical figure remains.
AIBELL ā THE FAIRY QUEEN!
And beyond her lies the ultimate destination.
MALIN HEAD!
27 MILES. BUNCRANA TO MALIN HEAD.
THE FOURTEENTH DAY. THE FINAL CHALLENGE. THE GREATEST REWARD!
Thursday 20th May 2027 | Day 14 of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ®
Fourteen days ago, our competitors stood at Mizen Head, looking north towards a distant dream.
Since then, they've battled through hundreds of miles of Irish countryside, conquered thirteen legendary ultramarathons and pushed themselves beyond limits they may never have imagined possible.
Now, finally, the last day has arrived.
Welcome to MTC Aibell, the grand finale of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® 2027!
Today's challenge takes competitors from Buncrana to Malin Head, a 27-mile journey across the spectacular Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal.
For our full MizMalĀ® warriors, these are the final miles of an extraordinary fourteen-day adventure.
And waiting at the finish?
THE NORTHERNMOST POINT OF MAINLAND IRELAND!
š Inishowen Gateway Hotel
Buncrana, Co. Donegal, Ireland
Postcode: F93 PPH9
What3words: ///untruth.slangy.verify
The MTC Aibell begins at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, where our full MizMalĀ® competitors will have finished the previous day's MTC Bodach ultramarathon.
After thirteen consecutive days of running, there may be some tired legs and stiff muscles at the start line!
But there will also be something rather special.
THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS THE FINAL DAY!
For standalone competitors, Buncrana marks the beginning of their own 27-mile adventure.
For our full MizMalĀ® warriors, it's the starting point of the last chapter in a journey that began almost two weeks earlier at Mizen Head.
One more start line.
One more race.
One final challenge.
Leaving Buncrana behind, competitors will make their way north through the beautiful landscapes of the Inishowen Peninsula.
This remarkable corner of County Donegal is renowned for its rugged scenery, coastal landscapes, rolling hills and spectacular Atlantic views.
The route towards Malin Head offers a fitting backdrop for the final stage of our Irish adventure.
But don't be fooled by the relatively short distance compared with some of the earlier MizMalĀ® stages.
TWENTY-SEVEN MILES IS STILL A SERIOUS ENDURANCE CHALLENGE!
And after thirteen consecutive ultramarathons, every mile must still be earned.
Competitors must follow the official GPX route supplied by the organisers, taking care on public roads and at junctions.
š Malin Head
Inishowen Peninsula, Co. Donegal, Ireland
THE NORTHERNMOST POINT OF MAINLAND IRELAND!
The precise race finish position, including its What3words reference and access instructions, will be confirmed in the final race information.
And what a place to finish!
Malin Head is one of Ireland's most iconic coastal landmarks, where dramatic cliffs, rugged scenery and the wild Atlantic create a spectacular setting.
For our standalone MTC Aibell competitors, reaching Malin Head represents the successful completion of a memorable 27-mile ultramarathon.
But for those completing the entire Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® adventure?
It means something altogether different.
Imagine standing at Malin Head, looking out across the Atlantic Ocean.
Fourteen days earlier, you were standing at Mizen Head, at the opposite end of Ireland.
Between those two moments lie hundreds of miles, fourteen consecutive ultramarathons and an extraordinary test of physical and mental endurance.
There will have been moments of exhaustion.
Moments of doubt.
Perhaps even moments when continuing seemed impossible.
But somehow, one mile at a time, the journey continued.
And now?
YOU'VE DONE IT!
MIZEN HEAD TO MALIN HEAD!
FOURTEEN CONSECUTIVE ULTRAMARATHONS!
ONE EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT!
Every successful MTC Aibell finisher will receive a bespoke medal commemorating their achievement.
For competitors who successfully complete the entire fourteen-day MizMalĀ® challenge, there's something extra special waiting at Malin Head.
The prestigious overall Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® finisher's medal!
Together with the fourteen individual daily medals, that makes:
FIFTEEN MEDALS IN TOTAL!
But the greatest reward won't be hanging around your neck.
It will be the knowledge that you've achieved something truly extraordinary.
Standalone competitors are responsible for arranging their own transport to the start at Buncrana and their onward journey from Malin Head.
Please remember that the start and finish locations are approximately 27 race miles apart.
Malin Head is a remote coastal destination, so advance travel arrangements are strongly recommended.
Full fourteen-day MizMalĀ® competitors will receive separate instructions regarding their event accommodation, catering and end-of-event arrangements.
Final start times, finish-point details and logistical instructions will be provided before race day.
The fairy queen of Irish legend provides the inspiration for our final challenge.
But the real magic will happen when our competitors arrive at Malin Head.
For some, it will be the completion of their first ultramarathon.
For others, another remarkable achievement to add to their running history.
And for our full MizMalĀ® warriors, it will be the culmination of fourteen days of courage, determination and extraordinary endurance.

Thursday 20th May 2027 | Day 14 of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ®
And so, after thirteen consecutive ultramarathons, hundreds of miles and an extraordinary journey across Ireland, we arrive at the final chapter.
WELCOME TO MTC AIBELL!
The fourteenth and final stage of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® 2027.
Today, our competitors leave Buncrana behind and head north towards one of the most iconic destinations in Ireland.
MALIN HEAD ā THE NORTHERNMOST POINT OF MAINLAND IRELAND!
Our final race may be the shortest stage of the entire fourteen-day adventure, but don't be fooled.
With 27.5 miles of running and 1,699 feet of climbing, there's still one last challenge to conquer.
And for our full MizMalĀ® warriors, those legs will already have carried them through thirteen consecutive ultramarathons!
The final stage takes its name from Aibell, the enchanting fairy queen of Irish mythology.
Associated with the supernatural world of the Aos SĆ, Aibell is remembered in folklore for her mysterious powers and magical harp.
Perhaps her enchanting music will provide a little encouragement as our competitors tackle their final miles.
But there will be no magical shortcuts to Malin Head.
EVERY MILE MUST STILL BE EARNED!
The MTC Aibell begins at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, where our full MizMalĀ® competitors will have completed the previous day's MTC Bodach challenge.
From here, the route heads north through County Donegal's spectacular Inishowen Peninsula.

Based on the measured distance of 27.5 miles, the maximum permitted completion time is:
6 HOURS, 52 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS
There may be just one final finish line remaining, but the race rules and cut-off requirements still apply.
So keep those checkpoint stops efficient, manage your energy carefully and save something for the final push to Malin Head!
Every competitor successfully completing the MTC Aibell will receive a bespoke finisher's medal commemorating the final stage.

Competitors must maintain a minimum overall average speed of 4 mph, including time spent at checkpoints.
Based on the confirmed measured distance of 27.5 miles, the maximum completion time is:
6 HOURS, 52 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS
The clock continues running during checkpoint stops.
Manage your time carefully, refuel sensibly and keep moving towards the ultimate finish line.

And here we are!
After thirteen consecutive ultramarathons, hundreds of miles and an extraordinary journey across Ireland, our competitors have reached the final day of Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® 2027.
WELCOME TO MTC AIBELL!
Our fourteenth and final stage takes competitors from Buncrana to Malin Head, covering a measured distance of 27.5 miles, with two supported checkpoints along the way.
For standalone competitors, it's an exciting ultramarathon through the spectacular Inishowen Peninsula.
For our full MizMalĀ® warriors, however, these are the final miles of an extraordinary fourteen-day adventure.
And there's just one thing standing between them and the ultimate finish line.
THE CLOCK!
All competitors must maintain a minimum overall average speed of 4 mph, including time spent at checkpoints.
Based on the confirmed route distance of 27.5 miles, the maximum permitted completion time is:
6 HOURS, 52 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS
This includes all running, walking, eating, drinking and checkpoint stops.
Remember:
THE CLOCK DOESN'T STOP WHEN YOU DO!
| Location | Cumulative Distance | Latest Elapsed Time |
|---|---|---|
| š¢ Start ā Inishowen Gateway Hotel | 0.0 miles | 00:00:00 |
| š CP1 ā R244, County Donegal | 9.3 miles | 02:19:30 |
| š CP2 ā Balleelaghan | 18.2 miles | 04:33:00 |
| š Finish ā Malin Head | 27.5 miles | 06:52:30 |
IMPORTANT: All times are calculated from each competitor's official start time.
These are the maximum elapsed times based on the required minimum average speed of 4 mph. Final checkpoint operating arrangements will be confirmed in the pre-race instructions.
Distance: 9.3 miles
Cut-Off: 2 hours 19 minutes 30 seconds
The first checkpoint arrives after 9.3 miles.
For our full MizMalĀ® competitors, the excitement of knowing that this is their final day may provide an extra spring in their step.
But careful pacing is still essential.
Refuel, replenish your fluids and prepare for the next section.
THE FINISH LINE IS GETTING CLOSER!
Cumulative Distance: 18.2 miles
Cut-Off: 4 hours 33 minutes
The second and final checkpoint arrives at 18.2 miles.
And what a milestone this represents!
For our full MizMalĀ® competitors, this will be their final supported checkpoint of the entire fourteen-day adventure.
Fourteen days of running.
Hundreds of miles.
Countless checkpoint stops.
And now, just 9.3 miles remain.
Take on sufficient food and fluids for the final section.
Check your navigation.
And prepare for the last push.
NEXT STOP ā MALIN HEAD!
Total Distance: 27.5 miles
Final Cut-Off: 6 hours 52 minutes 30 seconds
And here it is.
The ultimate finish line.
The northernmost point of mainland Ireland.
The destination that has been waiting since our competitors first set off from Mizen Head on 7th May.
For standalone competitors, reaching Malin Head within the permitted time represents the successful completion of a challenging 27.5-mile ultramarathon.
But for those who have undertaken the entire Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® adventure?
It means something altogether different.
FOURTEEN CONSECUTIVE ULTRAMARATHONS COMPLETED!
MIZEN HEAD TO MALIN HEAD!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Although the MTC Aibell is the shortest stage of the fourteen-day adventure, it still demands respect.
The route includes 1,699 feet of ascent and 1,545 feet of descent.
And for our full MizMalĀ® competitors, thirteen previous ultramarathons will undoubtedly have taken their toll.
It's important to remember that the minimum 4 mph requirement includes all stops.
A lengthy break at a checkpoint could make the difference between finishing within the permitted time and missing a cut-off.
Our advice?
START SENSIBLY. FUEL REGULARLY. KEEP YOUR STOPS EFFICIENT.
Competitors who fail to meet the required cut-off times may be withdrawn from the event.
Our final ultramarathon takes its name from Aibell, the enchanting fairy queen of Irish mythology.
Associated with a magical harp and the mysterious world of the Aos SĆ, Aibell is a fitting mythical companion for the final stage.
But even her legendary powers won't stop the race clock!
The final miles must still be earned.
One step at a time.
One checkpoint at a time.
Until finally, after fourteen extraordinary days, there are no more miles left to run.
Imagine arriving at Malin Head.
The Atlantic Ocean stretches out before you.
Your final race is complete.
And after fourteen consecutive days of extraordinary endurance, you can finally stop running.
There may be tears.
There may be laughter.
There may be some very tired legs!
But above all, there will be pride.
Because completing Mount to Coast MizMalĀ® is an achievement that will remain with you for the rest of your life.
Every successful MTC Aibell finisher will receive a bespoke daily medal.
And for competitors who successfully complete the entire fourteen-day challenge, the prestigious overall MizMalĀ® finisher's medal awaits.
FOURTEEN DAILY MEDALS + ONE OVERALL MIZMALĀ® MEDAL = FIFTEEN MEDALS!
But the greatest reward is knowing that you've conquered the entire journey from Mizen Head to Malin Head.

This may be a collapsible cup, water bottle or hydration pack.
Disposable drinking cups will not be supplied at checkpoints.
Please help us protect the beautiful landscapes of County Donegal by taking your litter with you and disposing of it responsibly.
Every ultrarunner has their own preferred approach to fuelling.
Some rely on energy gels.
Others prefer real food.
And after thirteen consecutive ultramarathons, our full MizMalĀ® competitors may have developed some rather interesting food cravings!
Whatever works for you, make sure you bring sufficient supplies.
Competitors requiring particular sports nutrition, electrolyte products, dietary foods or personal medication must make their own arrangements.
We strongly recommend practising your race nutrition during training.
THE FINAL DAY IS NOT THE TIME FOR EXPERIMENTS!
Even on the final day, competitors must maintain a minimum overall average speed of 4 mph, including checkpoint stops.
Based on the confirmed measured distance of 27.5 miles, the maximum completion time is:
6 HOURS, 52 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS
Time spent eating, drinking, changing clothing or resting at checkpoints all counts towards your total race time.
So while we certainly want competitors to refuel properly, we also encourage efficient checkpoint stops.
EAT WELL. DRINK REGULARLY. KEEP MOVING!
Our final ultramarathon takes its name from Aibell, the enchanting fairy queen of Irish mythology.
Associated with a magical harp and the mysterious world of the Aos SĆ, Aibell provides a fitting mythical companion for the final stage.
Perhaps her enchanting music will provide a little encouragement during those final miles.
But for our full MizMalĀ® warriors, the real motivation will be something much more powerful.
